Assistant Docking Officer

You will serve as the Assistant Docking Officer, who acts as a specialist and consultant in performing highly technical stability and loading functions to safely lift vessels out of the water to perform depot maintenance. Working as a civilian at the U.S. Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:
Supervising a group of employees who perform various tasks involved in lifting, drydocking or land transfer of a wide variety of marine craft and ships for repair, renovation or construction. Performing the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Observing workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Providing advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Providing expert analysis and advice on complex program issues related to docking and transfer of vessels. Giving authoritative recommendations based on complexity of activity, facility capacity, weather, knowledge of personnel and fatigue Developing new or examines and updates blocking plans. Directing the sequencing, flooding, pumping operations, ship positioning, lifting, lowering and shoring of the vessel in the drydock to ensure adequate support of the vessel is maintained throughout the drydock period. Coordinating any block removal with engineering and directs the safe removal during repairs operations. One year of specialized experience at the next lower level. (GS-9 level for the GS-11 level) and (GS-11 level for the GS-12 level) Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
