Job DescriptionGeneral
Summary:
The Service Line Coordinator is a professional leader who serves in a blended role of leadership and bedside nurse.
The coordinator is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
The coordinator will work together with the Nurse Manager to facilitate, mentor and evaluate others to grow professionally and advance their knowledge and skills.
In addition, the Service Line Coordinator will continuously assess the OR needs to ensure adequate resources for current and upcoming shifts by collaborating with the Nurse Manager.
The coordinator will be prepared to assume the duties of the Nurse Manager in her/his absence.
The Coordinator will hold team members accountable by ensuring adherence to appropriate federal, state and local regulations, Professional Standards, hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.
II.
Minimum Education RequirementsGraduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or found by the Board to be substantially equivalent to the programs in Maryland.
Currently is licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland.
Qualifications Bachelors in Nursing degree.
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required upon hire.
Must meet all unit specific certification requirements:
(PALS, ACLS, NRP) Minimum of 3 years of operating room experience.
Orthopedic OR experience is preferred.
Leadership experience is preferred.
Professional Certification required (CCRN, CNOR, CEN, etc).
Must maintain 1.
0 FTE Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks:

Professional Practice Independently practices with solid knowledge and clinical skills Competent in care of unit specific patient population and functions effectively in roles specific to the unit Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice Collaborates with interdisciplinary team (including physicians and anesthesiologists) to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs Advises the Clinical Coordinator on room assignments appropriate to the skill level of specialty service team members.
Transitions from task based care to holistic care Participates in unit based Clinical Practice activities Integrates patient education materials utilizing the Teach Back methodology Assists in the development of clinical practice guidelines and standards for unit Services as Clinical Resource for others Professional Development Engaged in advancing own practice.
Coordinates orientation, in-services and continuing education as assigned.
Contributes to ancillary personnel skills and development.
Participates in unit based Professional Development activities.
Contributes to unit-based education and learning activities (One (1) per year that could be posters, storyboards, presentation, in-service, group project) Completes a minimum of ten (10) CE's annually (a minimum of 50% of the 10 continuing education hours must be directly related to the full scope of your certification and/or specialty; a minimum of 50% of your 10 continuing education hours must be formally approved CE's) or successful completion of six (6) credit hours towards a BSN or Master's Degree Practice Focus Areas:

Addresses patient complaints and concerns in a proactive manner, seeking to resolve issues real time whenever possible.
Participates in the unit based process improvement (PI) efforts assists in development of action plans and supports implementation.
Monitors room turnover, equipment and instrumentation availability, case setups and on time starts.
Identifies alternatives that represent improvement to existing supplies and equipment.
Participates in the elements of research.
Assists with regulatory readiness.
Models' professional behavior and culture of excellence standards on a consistent basis with emphasis on the UM BWMC model of care Serves on unit or service-based management teams, representing both staff and managerial interests in this capacity.
Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and objectives.
Recommends changes and improvements to operations, and prepares justification of same.
Leadership Delegates appropriately to other healthcare team members Participates in teambuilding efforts on units; supports and models teamwork throughout the organization Supports administrative perspective when interpreting policy decisions to staff.
Represents nurse manager on standing and/or ad hoc committees as appropriate.
Leads efforts that support Service Line Operations to include equipment maintenance, procedure scheduling, vendor management, technology, instrumentation, etc.
Participates in review and/or revision of unit standards to include policies, procedures and guidelines.
Assists in developing and maintaining specialty service preference cards.
Monitors productivity; identifies opportunities for improvement to nurse manager to include ways to reduce agency, OT costs, etc.
Participates in the interview process.
Provides feedback regarding job performance to the manager.
Troubleshoots when routine mechanisms fail, crossing interdepartmental lines to resolve issues.
Participates in and/or provides input into budgeting process for supplies and capital equipment.
Monitors utilization and cost of supplies; enforces charging mechanisms.
Supports cost containment efforts through conservation of supplies and care of equipment.
Participates in unit/hospital based committee or councils Participates and supports the AACN guidelines for Healthy Work Environment (communication, collaboration, effective decision making, recognition, leadership, staffing).
